Workshops ::

Tutorial/Workshop 1: Workshop on Nanoscale Experimental Methods and Modeling, Fee $75: A. T. Conlisk, Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Ohio State University and Minami Yoda, G. W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology Sponsored By The Ralph Regula School of Computational Science

8:20 am – 4:30 pm

Tutorial/Workshops 1 is designed for industry leaders in R&D, for graduate students, faculty and scientists who want to understand how to determine the proper approach to use in the design and evaluation of the efficiency of a given nanoproduct. Attendees will understand how to model micro and nanofluidic devices and how to make measurements using Atomic Force microscopy, microscale particle-image velocimetry, and laser-induced fluorescence.

Tutorial/Workshops 2: How to connect and work with the Third Frontier Pre-Seed Funds and ESPs. Fee $25: Northwest Territory Room (92 people max)

Tutorial/Workshops 2 is designed to inform industry on how to utilize the venture funds that have been set-up through the Third Frontier. Both early pre-seed and the ESP programs will be presented.

3:30 pm – 4:15 pm

A how to guide to working with a Pre-seed fund, “Southern Ohio Creates Companies” Dorothy Air

4:15 pm – 5:00 pm

Ohio Third Frontier ESP Programs, “Dayton Region Signature Fund”, Judy Brinegar

Tutorial/Workshops 3: Technology Transfer 101-Overcoming the barriers between Ohio Industries and Ohio Universities ($50) Fallen Timber Room (120 people max)

1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

• This program will provide a basic overview of technology transfer in a University environment. It will focus on the faculty/inventor and collaboration with industry through sponsored research, licensing, and start-up business activities. It will discuss the key elements and strategies for successful technology transfer within a University.

• A case study will be presented a Wright Center of Innovation established by a $28 million grant from the State of Ohio. IDCAST is a $130 million collaboration of six Ohio universities, Federal Labs, and over 20 Ohio companies focused on bringing Remote Sensing and Chemical/Biological sensing application to market.

Speakers:

  • George Harker PhD, Associate VP, Case University
  • Lisa Rooney JD, Directory of Technology Transfer, Ohio University
  • Larrell Walters Director IDCAST

Moderator Anne Chasser Associate Vice President for Intellectual Property, University of Cincinnati

Tutorial/Workshops 4: New Technology Forum

This is an invitation for you (or a representative of your organization) to present in an Emerging Technology Forum (ETF) at the 4th annual Ohio Nanotechnology Summit to be held April 9-11, 2008 at the Great Wolf Lodge at Kings Island.

The ETF session will be held on April 9 from 1:30 – 5:00 PM

The purpose of this session has these themes:

1. Provide examples/highlight of commercial nano products.
2. Raise practical and critical issues with new product introductions.
3. Surface where new solutions are needed.
4. Present examples of how collaboration accelerated the speed of commercialization
5. New nano break-through by industry

Collaboration Mixers ::
This years event will include "collaboration mixers" on April 9th and 10th. The objective of these "mixers" is to provide an excellent forum allowing individuals, companies, or research groups opportunities to find the expertise that they need to address their nanotechnology issues. The Ohio Nanosummit will provide experts in various areas to facilitate discussions. In addition, individual companies can request a table for soliciting collaborations.
